A Diamond’s brilliance and beauty is
unsurpassed. Created millions of years ago, their rarity is what separates
these gems from all the rest. We at Oliver Diamonds understand that buying a
diamond is a thrilling and intimate experience. A diamond is the most romantic
of all gifts because it is an eternal symbol of true and lasting love.
Approximately 80% of the world's diamonds
pass through Antwerp Belgium,
famous for the master craftsmen gem cutters, polishers and traders.
Diamond is a crystal made up of carbon atoms
which exist deep in the ground. Over billions of years diamonds are
exposed to intense heat and pressure to create the hardest and most beautiful
natural substance on earth.
The first diamond deposits were brought to
the surface by volcano like explosions more than two billion years ago and even
the most recent deposits are at least 50 million years old. Diamonds found in
their raw form are known as 'rough'. It is from this rough state that the
diamond is then cut and polished to produce a beautiful gemstone.
Once a diamond has been polished into a
finished piece it can then be evaluated for its beauty based on some well known
qualities
that define a diamond that are notably termed as the ‘4Cs’:
Colour
Clarity
Carat
Cut
To learn more about diamonds, we have created some useful information pages
detailing an overview the 4 C's.
